Searching books with Microsoft

December 18, 2006

Live Search Books is a new sevice of Microsoft. All books in Live Search Books are full text searchable. The service has less books than Google Book Search. The reason is that only copyright free books are scanned or books that authors or publishers allowed to digitalize. Live Search Books has collections of the British Library, the University of California and the University of Toronto. In the future books of Cornell University will be added.

Microsoft is a member of Open Content Alliance (OCA). This non-profit organisation is an initiative of the Internet Archive. The aim is to create a permanent archive of digitalised books that every one could consult. Microsoft has already scanned 150.000 books.
