Access for students FEB@KULeuven to the Hercules databases as of Monday the 26st of November

All students of FEB@KULeuven can have access to the databases Oriana and Zephyr.

Please make a reservation, access is only possible if you do so. Please use the following links: :

The library staff at the infodesk will help you to access Oriana and Zephyr.

Master students of FEB@KULeuven can also apply for an account on the WRDS-platform without assistance.  The databases  Compustat, AuditAnalytics, Bankscope, Isis and Osiris  are accessible through the WRDS-platform at http://wrds-web.wharton.upenn.edu. Students have to select the Register tab and follow the procedure. Approval of the accounts will be checked once a week.

Step 1:  Point your web browser to <http://wrds-web.wharton.upenn.edu>  

Step 2:  Select the Register tab or link “Register for a WRDS Account.”  

Step 3:  Complete the Account Request form.   

Step 4:  Once you submit an Account Request, an email will be sent to your WRDS Representative(s), Patrick Beullens (patrick.beullens@kuleuven.be) and Carl Demeyere (carl.demeyere@kuleuven.be).

After receiving approval, an account will be created and you will receive an e-mail message with a special URL and instructions for setting the account password and logging into WRDS. 

Step 5:  You may log into WRDS.

Step 6: Review the WRDS Terms of Use.

Step 7: You may begin using your new account. 

 

Bachelor students of FEB@KULeuven have a different access to the Hercules-databases on the WRDS – platform (http://wrds-web.wharton.upenn.edu). Class accounts can only be created for bachelor studentswhen requested by  faculty members of FEB. . If you need access, please contact carl.demeyere@kuleuven.be with information on the purpose of the use of this databases and the faculty member involved.

All students will further be informed via Toledo, e-mail and at the information desk of the library EBIB.

Acknowledgement of Hercules Foundation when using databases in research papers:

Whenever you as well as your students use the databases that were financed through the Hercules grant in research papers, it is required to acknowledge the Hercules Foundation for this. The following line, for example, could be included in the acknowledgements section of your paper(s): “The authors thank the Hercules Foundation

(Project No. AKUL/11/02) for the financing provided to purchase the databases (or specify the database here) in this paper”.

Bureau Van Dijk EP for sale

Candover, which owns about 60pc, has put Bureau van Dijk up for sale in a move that could see the company valued at £500m-£600m.
The private equity group has appointed boutique advisory house Long Acre Partners and investment bank Goldman Sachs to carry out a strategic review of the business. Industry sources said Bureau van Dijk is likely to generate bidding interest from business information publishers Reed Elsevier, Reuters, Pearson and Incisive Media.

Scopus adds seven million records

January 23, 2007
The scientific database Scopus will be updated with with seven million abstracts. Scopus has an agreement with Springer, Nature Publishing Group, American Physical Society and American Institute of Physics. Scopus wants to upgrade the quality of the database
